About

Jocur Legal is built on an ethos of clarity, discretion, and high-context counsel — an approach that sees every legal matter as a strategic moment with ripple effects beyond the document itself. Founded by attorney Joe Curtis, the firm believes meaningful representation begins with immersion: understanding your world, your pressures, and your trajectory. Every engagement is handled with precision, long-term vision, and a steady hand when the margin for error disappears. This philosophy guides how the firm thinks, communicates, and acts: quietly, deliberately, and with sharp attention to the details that shape outcomes.

Joe’s practice spans sports, entertainment, technology, startups, founder representation, and complex commercial matters. He represents athletes, creators, founders, early-stage companies, and Forbes 30 Under 30 talent whose decisions carry outsized consequences. His clients often operate at intersections: sports with media, technology with IP, startups with brand-building, or creative careers with corporate structure. Jocur Legal is purpose-built for these multidimensional clients who need counsel capable of seeing the legal, strategic, operational, and human layers at once.

Joe’s ability to serve as fractional General Counsel and executive-level advisor is grounded in the work he performed through Jocur Legal while acting as the de facto COO and General Counsel for a sports and entertainment company. He oversaw legal operations, negotiated major agreements, represented NFL athletes in NFLPA arbitration, managed compliance across divisions, and acted as a strategic bridge between talent, executives, and partners. This was immersive operational leadership — where legal judgment, business instinct, and interpersonal intelligence had to move in sync. That experience now powers Jocur Legal’s offering for founders and companies needing senior-level guidance without the rigidity of a full-time executive.

His foundation as an attorney was built in litigation. At Seltzer Mayberg, Joe handled federal criminal matters, civil litigation, and transactional issues — drafting federal sentencing memorandums, litigating substantive motions, conducting evidentiary hearings, negotiating ADA settlements, and representing clients in federal forfeiture proceedings. He interacted with agencies including the FBI, Secret Service, and Department of Homeland Security and represented clients in a wide range of state criminal matters. This background gives him a grounded understanding of exposure, leverage, and conflict—insight that informs every negotiation and advisory relationship.

Beyond litigation, Joe developed a multidisciplinary practice across modern and emerging industries. He has advised tech startups, multimedia companies, early-stage ventures, NIL collectives, and Web3 creators; filed trademarks; structured licensing and name/image/likeness deals; and worked on digital-collaboration and NFT projects. His clients range from founders building new ventures to rising talent shaping emerging markets — all relying on Joe for guidance that blends legal architecture with strategy and long-term vision.

Earlier in his career, Joe gained experience in immigration law drafting O-1, EB-1, and L-1B visa materials, and in corporate settings where he drafted agreements, conducted regulatory research, and advised on intellectual property, compliance, and internal governance. This broad exposure informs the wide-lens perspective he brings to Jocur Legal today.

Joe is admitted to the Florida Bar and the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida. He earned his J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law, where he received the CALI Award for Closely Held Business Entities, and holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Miami.

As a hyper-boutique practice, Jocur Legal is built for one mission: to protect the throne you’ve built. For founders, creators, and talent, every decision influences power, positioning, and longevity. Joe approaches each engagement as part of a larger strategy — fortifying your position, eliminating risks before they surface, and ensuring you remain in control of the narrative and the outcome.
